This sign is posted at the corner of Honey Springs Road and Jamul Road

The SDCBC (your San Diego County Bicycle Coalition) Council of Clubs committee has taken an action to contact County Supervisor Diane Jacobs and request that the sign be removed. This is on private property in Supervisor Jacobs' jurisdiction, so cyclists cannot remove or defame it legally (although all who've seen it are pretty outraged and tempted to do so), so the Bike Coalition is trying to go through regular channels. Will post more if/when this gets resolved. Only good part of the sign is the humorous spelling which says whatever you wish about the author.

At the SDCBC Council of Clubs meeting last night, Jim Baross reported that he wrote East County Supervisor Diane Jacobs but nothing could be done as it is private property and freedom of speech. Next step is to try to contact the owner of the property. Hearsay indicates the property may be owned by a business in LA, which could also mean they are not even aware of the sign, in which case it is there illegally, also, and could be removed by the rightful owner. Bernie Bogard of the Descenders took an action to try and track down the owner.

The sign was removed in the past week. This was done after SDCBC submitted a written request to the business owner of the property. So far, it is really unknown who removed the sign, or whether the SDCBC request prompted the removal. If anyone knows more details, please post here. Main thing is, it is now GONE.

One final note, as an NCCC member recently brought this to my attention again. The SDCBC letter (attached) was sent via certified mail and returned "Undelivered." It is unknown whether the property owner refused to accept the letter or whether the address was a front for something else. At any rate, since the sign is gone, we can assume that the flak received via the video, which went viral internationally, plus the pressure by SDCBC and any other negative publicity, finally got whoever put it up to remove it. There is always the unspoken possibility that some cyclist, in the middle of night, took care of business  ;) - who knows?
