The governor signed AB1909 on Friday 9/16.

Key provisions of this omnibus bill:

1) class 3 ebikes no longer prohibited on bike paths.
2) bikes may proceed on WALK signal (commencing 1/1/23).
3) drivers passing bikes must change lanes to pass (if there is an adjacent lane).

Note that Item (1) has a direct effect on our NCCC e-bike policy where we asked anyone on a Class 3 e-bike to not ride on Class I multi-use bike paths (like the San Luis Rey path and the new North Coast Trail + sections of the Coastal Rail Trail). These e-bikes, capable of speeds up to 28 mph while only pedaling, can now ride with us everywhere. Remember, "It's not about what you ride, but how you ride." If you're riding a Class 3 e-bike, refrain from throwing your arms up for KOM points and hold back from motopacing the whole group from the front ... just enjoy your e-assisted ride  8) .
